Maureen Lidgard-Brown

Maureen was one of the Yorkshire girls and was born in Halifax. She worked as a petrol pump attendant but was also a fashion model and competitive beauty queen, appearing in many national finals . She became Miss Yorkshire in 1969, was runner-up in Miss Great Britain and Miss UK contents and was Queen of Queens at Roundhay Park, Leeds in September 1969. She also made TV appearances.

In 1968, she met car dealer Brian R.J. Pedrick, who proposed to her five minutes after meeting her at the opening of the Wakefield Theatre Club.  They were married in Wandsworth in South London, but it didn’t last – and in 1979, she re-married to George Trevor Waller in her home county of West Yorkshire.

She was said to like dancing, music, the countryside and speedboats. She really had more of a professional look to her than a girl-next-door – so maybe she was a fashion model after all.

She and her husband are alive and well and live in the Lake District.
