Francesca was a very famous photographic model of the era, though not primarily through ToCo publications. She was one of Harrison Marks’ favourite models and appeared in many of his magazine series (QT, Solo etc) and 8mm films.
Because of the censorship then in force, all nude photos had to be retouched so nearly all his models were shaved and the labial cleft removed in the studio, which left the young boys growing up in the 1950s who used to climb trees to ogle at a mag stolen from an elder brother with a rather confused idea of female anatomy.
Francesca came from Birmingham in the Midlands and began modelling when she was 15 – that would be seen as a bit dodgy now. She dropped it at 17 and went to work in an office – not too difficult to guess why, I should imagine – but returned to the less dreary work in the studio at 17. Perhaps she found the modesty board on her desk claustrophobic and restrictive after her years of displaying her stocking tops and suspenders for anyone interested in ogling them. She was said to follow the unlikely combination of pursuits of farming and mountain-climbing. Riiiight!
