Audrey was a golden-haired, smash-hit model from Wembley in London – one of photographer Russell Gay’s models.. By the time she was 17, she had already won several beauty contests and had been voted MISS SPICK, which brought her and a friend a free week’s holiday. Her ambition was to go on and win Miss Britain and then hit the big time of fashion and photographic modelling.
Two years later, at the age of 19, she was among the bevy of stars to give their services free for an evening to raise money for the British Empire (oh, those halcyon days) Cancer Campaign, alongside such famous names, in those days, as Shirley Ann Field (film star), Norma Ann Sykes (otherwise known as Sabrina, the busty phenomenon, and TV starlet), Sally Elgar-Lee and Audrey Hill – all the girls were very popular ToCo models who made many appearances.
Audrey was very typical of her time and of the early days of the burgeoning ToCo empire.
